I was thinking about IBM and Sony's touting of the PS3's Cell archatecture. Now the PS3 is set to be heavly connected to the other PS3 and will be able to draw processing power from them..Hence the claim that it will be 100time more powerful than a Penitum 4 at 2.53 Ghz. An intersting commecnt was written by a PC fourmer from another site. See below.
""""Yep, I think IBM (or some big talker) said 'Cell' would be 100x as fast as P4 2.5GHz. But, that doesn't mean the chip in PS3 will be that powerful. Consider these:
1) It may be a number based on multiple 'Cell' chips in a grid/cluster.
2) It may be a future 'Cell' chip, and not necessarily one available when PS3 comes out.
I could say that P4 2.5GHz is 10x as fast as P4 2.5GHz. How is that? Well, put 10 machines together in a cluster versus a single machine. I didn't say a single P4 2.5GHz is 10x as fast as a single P4 2.5GHz."""""""
