Well, I just got the PSM august issue. It has a 4 page review, game screen shots, and it answered some of my questions. It also came with a dvd that shows clips of 42 games that are coming out on the PSP.

Some things I found interesting were that.....

-The analog slides, rather than tilts.

-THEY ARE RELEASING THE SPECIAL EDITION GRAN TURISMO PSP, but no date issued.

-A picture of the GPS. (I haven't seen a picture of it on the internet.)

-The two shoulder buttons don't press in very far, or atleast on the prototype it doesnt.

-"The external battery pack extends PSP's run time." (Not exactly sure what that means.)

-"Cost is still undetermined, but our sources at several game makers put it at $199 max, and most are pegging it at $149."

Well, I just thought some of this info might help. This review was better then the other magazine reviews I took a look at. Check it out. :D

That simply mean the Psp's play time will increase... Which is good :D

-"Cost is still undetermined, but our sources at several game makers put it at $199 max, and most are pegging it at $149."
$149 Is what I expect the Psp to sell for, a $149 bundle is what Im praying for *crosses fingers* Please come with a memory stick!

-The analog slides, rather than tilts.
That is Intertesting...

I have to go pick this issue up, the Dvd that came with it were they long clips like 1 minute long or more like 30 seconds?

Well, the dvd shows clips of 42 games. Each clip is probably like 10 to 15 seconds long or so. The whole thing is about a good 20 minutes. Then theres a E3 showing but by the time it gets to the middle, it stops, but maybe thats just me.

edit: Well, I just took a look at it and its 24 minutes. The thing is that its put on a flat screen monitor not directly from the PSP. The video clips will give you a big clue of how the games will be like.

149 dollars? never. Hell, the DS will cost $179.99

I always guessed psp to stand at 225-240 dollars, and i'm sticking with that.

Odd about the shoulder buttons....i guess they never did push in far though?

The SP shoulder buttons don't push in far and their fine. And I doupt it's $149 it won't even be that a year or 2 after it comes out.

I'm estimating it to be a $199 bundle, with a game.

The slide stick info, is interesting. I guess that should have been expect, it does look flat to the unit.

Thanks for the info, dantehman03.

no way !!
the system only (with a memory stick and the battery recharge things and maybe software for the PC (convert MP3 in ATRAC maybe or something like this) it will be between 200 and 250$
i prefer to pay 250$ for the system and get a high quality produc (with a case thats resistant to scratches and good buttons etc.) and cheaper games than just paying 150 for a PSP that's a piece of crap with short battery life, and games for 50$...

Sockatume

I really can't see it being any less than £/$200.

£200 at least I think. $200 isn't that much for a new console.

ultimategamer2004
07-23-2004, 03:42 PM
I'll probably pay upto £250 at launch but i will wait if it is more prices have been from £150-£450 i have seen said my guess is £200-£250 no more.

07-23-2004, 03:44 PM
you have to think of the fact that it is a handheld and not a homeconsole and ppl don't want to pay as much for a handheld as they do for a home console.
the GBA cost about 100-130$ i think.
i think there are not much ppl who would buy the PSP for more than 250$...

Is that American Dollors well if i am right ppl in the uk will pay £200 at least and i think thats $300.

Even at £200 I think sony will be losing money on selling psp's I don't know in america but here I think it will be about £250 at launch. And £200 is about $365

ultimategamer2004
07-23-2004, 03:50 PM
Yeah thats my guess aswell but what do you mean losing money on selling the PSP they wont make them for more than they sell them at lauch especially!

No hopefully well they hope that they will make the PSP alot under the RRP price of the psp and make quite a bit of profit but the price will lower slowly down to what they can make it for.

You know what guys, with all the speculation on cost, I am sure Sony are going to introduce the PSP in multiple ways.

I really see, the PSP going for $199 US, with a game or not.

nobody
07-23-2004, 06:00 PM
i don't think they will sell it at 200$
it will be somewhere between 200 and 250 because if it's too low the quality will suffer i think and i prefern to pay more than have a crap product.

$200 is way to cheap remember this can play movies, music and other stuff so it will cost a lot at launch.

ultimategamer2004
07-23-2004, 06:23 PM
Yeah its really full entertainment on the move! At least £200/$300 i think. Anyways i think this is slightly off topic now.

$200 is way to cheap remember this can play movies, music and other stuff so it will cost a lot at launch.

the movie, music and picture (etc.) viewing feature is easily to make because it doesn't really require new hardware.
just big storage (UMD, Mem stick)
if PSP will really cost muc over 250 or even 300$ i don't see many ppl buy it so they will buy DS before they wait a half or even one year until it gets cheaper...
price over 250$ = death for sony in the handheld market.

games_ fan
07-23-2004, 06:57 PM
Oh right maybe just the psp would be at that price but if you also want a game with it or a memory stick wich i think most people will that will push the price up.

ultimategamer2004
07-23-2004, 07:00 PM
Depends on the size of a stick i think a small stick will be included in the price annyway probably only good for games saves maybe a 64MB at most!

07-23-2004, 07:00 PM
200 fora ds and sony aid it would be comapriable to that price so im thinking 200 or 250.

games_ fan
07-23-2004, 07:03 PM
200 what? If the ds is a budget handheld like they say it will be wich probably means £90-£120 then I doupt the psp will be about the same price at launch. and is it just me or is this turning into a price thread.

ultimategamer2004
07-23-2004, 07:08 PM
200 is different from 90-120 he dident say 90-120 anyways.. this is turning into a price thread so continue in price disscusion.

I think the price of the PSP will be in the $200 area. I really can't see it being more than $250. I mean, I want to believe its going to be $149 but I don't think that will happen.

thanks for the replies guys.

raVen
07-24-2004, 02:16 AM
The reason I think its gonna be around $149 is becuase Sony said the dont expect to make money off the system, the expect to lose its first couple of years but make the money back through software. So by selling the Psp at a low price everyone will rush out and get it meaning more games will be bought. Im saying between $149 and $200 for a Psp and a small Memory stick, battery charger, and neckstrap/headphone

kevindenoyette
07-24-2004, 02:24 AM
You wont have enough cash. Trust me. If the DS will cost 180, the psp won't cost 149, use your brain.

ultimategamer2004
07-24-2004, 04:25 PM
Well in ££££'s the DS is going to cost £100 and i think the PSP is going to cost atleast double so thats £200 and i think a bit more so £250 so too be safe and get both at launch you would need £350 or £400 to make sure you get them definatly!

You know the Project Gotham Racing 2 Edinburgh track? Drive along Princes Street and look out for a branch of GAME on the left hand side. That's where I'm going to be queing on PSP/DS launch night. :D

ultimategamer2004

@ultimategamer2004 & raVen:

i think you both are wrong... it wont cost that less but it also won't cost that much...
it's much too expensive to produce the PSP (especially the big screens) to sell them much under 200$/£/€ but if it costs over 250$/£/€ not many ppl will get one and prefer the DS because it will be quite cheap compared to the PSP.
but if it's just between this so 200-250$/£/€ sony won't loose money on it and ppl will think "before i get a DS i prefer to pay 50$/£/€ more and get the cool PSP with nice graphics and all the multimedia stuff"
like kaz hirai said in the game informer interview:
ppl will look at the features and say: "yeah. that's worth it"

ultimategamer2004
07-24-2004, 09:13 PM
Yeah well i still think that it will be £200-£250 for the psp at launch i mean look at all the stuff it does it will be in that price range i think.

nobody
07-24-2004, 09:29 PM
if you look in all the different PSP forums and all the votes about the price that where made nearly everytime the price range from 200 to 250 has the most votes.

if i could get a PSP with battery recharger, a memory stick (32MB), a USB cable and maybe software for the PC i would like to pay 250€ for it.

Sockatume
07-24-2004, 11:13 PM
Ah, that's something to think about. Will Sony be the first manufacturer to bundle a (non-HDD) memory card as standard with their console?

ultimategamer2004
07-25-2004, 08:18 PM
Well it would be good if they did and most ppl would be willing to pay a bit more if there were a mem stick with it.

games_ fan
07-25-2004, 08:22 PM
If they give away a 32mb memory stick then it wouldn't push the price up much maybe £5 so that would be the best thing to give away with it. It realy pisses me off having to buy a memory card for something whats the point anyway :x

ultimategamer2004
07-25-2004, 08:26 PM
no it would be £15 for a 32MB stick but even a good 512MB stick can be bought for £82 and at the time of the psp it will probably be aboutm £50 at the most so i will get a 512 i think.

PsP_will_rock
07-25-2004, 08:27 PM
i think it will come:
PSP
32 mb card
battery charger

for $200 USD

hey PsP_will_rock. Well, I have no idea what PSM were thinking but thats just a remote control/microphone for your music. Its the exact same controller as the MD Players. kinda stupid they said "Barcode reader? Thermometer? Doodad from Star Trek?" even if they are trying to be funny.. its just spreading rumors where idiots would believe... why would we need a bar code reader? lol..

well.. on to your next subject..

camera: $30-$40
stand: less than $10
GPS: greater than $50 bucks (this one should be expensive)
keyboard: $20-$30
neck strap: less than $10
external battery: $30
phone: less than $100 greater than $50

umm.. by the way, the stand and neck strap comes with the PSP.. or atleast I've heard.. so not 100% sure.

if the camera is less than 40$ i think i'll get it.
you can surely use it as webcam too if you connect PSP via USB or WLAN to your PC.
and on you PSP you can also use it as webcam when you are at a Hotspot.
talking to you friends with a mic and with picture must be cool 8)

Camera: £FREE when bundled with a compatable, Eyetoy-style game, or £30 seperately.
Stand: £20, with built-in charge circuit
GPS: £100+ (even simple GPS sat-nav addons for PDAs cost upwards of £150)
Keyboard: £15
Neck strap/earphone: £30 (those earphones sell for £20-ish on their own, they're some of Sony's top of the line 'phones. Bass-heavy but good for the money)
External battery: £50
Phone: £60 (PCMCIA phone cards for laptops give a price guide)

what do you mean losing money on selling the PSP they wont make them for more than they sell them at lauch especially!
Console developers nearly always take a hit on the cost of the console cause they make it back in software. As like mobile phone companies letting you have phones for less than they are worth. Eg. when the xbox was released Microsoft were loosing £100 for every console they sold. And as far as i know nintendo just broke even.

dj_rpr
08-22-2004, 10:39 PM
well i guess at first to get the nice gear you will always pay higher price, but if u want the privilege of having the new toy then u goto pay for it.

the only really good accessory worht getting for it would be the ext battery pack to increase ur play time.
