I did a lot of research before E3 and i heard that PSP droped online multiplayer and other wireless features on the psp.

i don't know if this is right or not though

this is what i thought would be featured that might not get on the psp

online multiplayer gaming(don't know i fhtat would be wi-fi or not)

instant messenger(using the keyboard)

chat(same as above)

wireless multiplayer(actually i don't know if it even has bluetooth for short range wireless gaming)

organizer(i think it should have at least a phonebook, calender, to do list)

are these going to be on the final version, this months game informer had a feature on the psp but didn't talk about it's wireless functions or communication features like phone, messenger, chat, email, etc.

Look at the official information (specs) on this site and wait till the TGS when the final retail version will be on show to use.

Tokyo Game Show, September. Basically it's like the E3 but not as big. All the PSP Japanese launch games will be ready and playable and we'll get all the news.

Ok. here is what I know on the online aspect of the psp.

I don't think that it is built in because of the fact that they are going to release a phone attachment for the psp. This is confermed and you can even find it on this site.

As for the other questions I have no idea but I dont this that they would drop wireless.

Well that has nothing to do with it being online! And also it aint built but we know what it will look like.. and specs.. Plus a phone add on has been confirmed..

this isn't very right. the info on this site is very old and so is the news of the phone attachment.
it was rumored a long time ago that there would be a GPRS adapter or such thing but we have nothing heard of it till now, they would have shown it on E3 if it would be there (they even showed gps and camera prototype so whey they shouldn't have show this)

personally i think the PSP does't need such thing because it is a gaming/multimedia handheld and not a phone. look at the N-gage, it's totally crap and when i want to phone someone i use my cellphone.

For your information, the news on this site isn't old, and there will be a mobile phone attachment for the PSP. The reason why we didn't see anything of it at E3 is because it is to be released as an add-on at a later date.

where's the official statement ?

the GPS, the keyboard will also be release at later dates and the camera was just a prototype so they would also have had a prototype of the mobile phone attachment i think.

but we will see at TGS (if such an attachment will come out we will hear it there)

That's just it...You think!!!
you have now proof, no way to prove that they wont have this attachment and are just basing it on the fact that they didn't show this at E3. There are probably going to be alot more things that are going to be released for the PSP other than what we have talked about that was not shown at E3.[/quote]

you have now proof, no way to prove that they wont have this attachment

and you also don't have a proof that there will be such thing...
i also have no proof that there won't be a USB hairdryer for the PSP but that doesn't mean there will be a hairdryer just because nobody has a proof that it doesn't come out...

There are probably going to be alot more things that are going to be released for the PSP other than what we have talked about that was not shown at E3

thats fore sure because even logitech will make peripherals for the PSP.
but untill nobody has said any attachment for the PSP will come out i don't expect it to come out...

if sony officially (!) announces that there will be a phone attachment for the PSP then I believe there will be one because sony said so

for me it looks like a keyboard with phone buttons on it.
where do you think all the technology is ? (because this is exactly the same as the normal keyboard)
and you would also need a headset so why isn't it on this psp when it would show the mobile phone addon ?

i heard rumors that the keyboard uses OLED technology so you could get different button layouts without having to replace something or buy another keyboard.
the symbols in the square on the left look like "musik" "movies" and all the symbols seen on the PSP UMD's.
and think of the IR of the PSP. with it you can connect a mobile phone to it, that could be the reason why you see nubers and phones on the keyboard.

can't wait for TGS to see more P S P !!!

Thank you Matt.

I was about to say that ken from sony computer entertainment inc. (scei) said that there would be a phone attachment for the psp but didn't have a source on the would to prove it (which you supplied). without it I would hve probably been bashed again by some people on this board (not naming any names).

Shouldent this be in the Acsesories.

thats what i meant.
the (news to the) interview you posted is quite old and i don't remember he said there will be one, i think he said there could be one. (but maybe i'm wrong here, i can't fint hte interview anymore)

if there really would be one why didn't they said at E3 ?
they even announced the camery and the GPS which just where prototypes at the E3 so they could also have annouce the phone attachment.

The point that I was tring to make is this:

So they didn't show it at e3, e3 is a very big gaming convention (biggest in the world) but they cant possably cover everything there (not in three days anyway) so just because they were not shown in e3 doesn't mean that they are not making it.

Kiwi
07-19-2004, 02:14 PM
Exactly. Just because it's not at E3, doesn't mean that it doesn't exist.

ultimategamer2004
07-19-2004, 03:25 PM
I think that E3 should be at least 5 days long so they can cover more in more detail than they do. :P

Kiwi

Ahh E3 is fine as it is. It's not as if everything has to be announced there anyway, and plus there's plenty of other shows throughout the year.

I don't think that it should be longer but maybe occur more than once a year. Perhaps once per season or once every half a year.

Dont know weather i will get the phoneattachment for the psp if its a good price i might but i dont know weather i would use it! Shouldent this be in the Acsesories.

firstly, before making such a huge decision like this one, i would learn not to be afraid to put a space in between words such as "phone" and "attachment". Then i would definately learn the difference between weather and whether. Then i would learn to spell "Accessories"

Jokes.

Here's a question, not sure if it has been covered.

If the PSP is to be used as a cell phone, how would that workout with the local CellularSP's in your local region?

For example, here in Toronto, we have four major CSP's: Telus, Bell, Rogers; Fido. All of them have different service's, and different phones. Certain brands are matched with certain company's, and cannot be used elsewhere, besides it's designated provider.

So in a situation like this, how would the PSP be utalised? Would additional chips have to be installed to make it regional, and make the cellular company's happy?

I am a novice when it come's to cellular phone, information, but I do know when a phone is to be activated, a lot of procedures take place. Such as taking down numbers from the phone, and dialing in numbers/codes, for the phone itself to be activated for the company.

So any clue/ideas, how this will be dealt with?

Sockatume
07-28-2004, 11:22 AM
It's all the same network infrastructure regardless of the phone company, it's just that some companies "lock" their phones to only work with their SIM cards and not their competitors' (you can get them unlocked).

Presumably you'll have a similar situation with the PSP, with "locked" company-based phone units available with contracts, and non-ocked units available (for example, my PayG Nokia wasn't locked, although it came with a T-Mobile SIM card).

As for registration, either it'll be dealt with in the store (contract) or can usually be dealt with over the phone (PayG). It's usually just a case of giving the SIM-card number, a home address etc.

GD|eNSo
07-28-2004, 11:27 AM
Thanks for the info. So do all companies use SIM cards? There is only provider here, I know, that still provides external cards for their phones.

Do other phones have them, installed, internally?

Sockatume
07-28-2004, 12:02 PM
That's odd, I'm from the UK and every phone uses a SIM card to store the phone details and usually back up the phonebook and SMS messages... where there's not a SIM card I can only assume there's a built-in equivalent, which would make getting the device unlocked a bit of a pain.

GD|eNSo
07-28-2004, 12:47 PM
Yes, they have their internal equivalents. Even unlocking a phone will do you no good, as the company you would want to sign up with will only accept their X, Y; Z Phones and nothing else.

In this situation, how would the PSP phone pan out?

Sockatume
07-28-2004, 01:07 PM
Hmm, it's far tricksier than I anticipimated, then...

I imagine they might do a deal with one phone company which does all the phone modules then.
