I just want to know if we all agree that PSP already surpassed many SEGA Dreamcast games in graphics department?
While we're talking about the ver very early PSP games and to me it already surpassed many Dreamcast games, and i'm sure the final version of psp games that wrre shown on E3 will looks better.. any of the games shown on E3 were poor textured etc. But they looks marvelous without a doubt.
imagine what PSP could show us in it's 1st year :)
please share your opinions

Not really, as they're on a small screen, they're very low-res.
As for it being the first year, the setup is very similar to PS2, and as PS2 has been around for 4 years, don't expect PSP games to look any better in 4 years time.

But still far more superior than other handhelds!!

At least 2x better than the nearest competitor in the handheld graphics department, but don't think it would be on par with the DC,be pretty close though.

The lower resolution lets it get away with a lot, so it's not very technically impressive, but the games do look as good as DC titles and early PS2 games so far.
I don't know how they did GT4ME.

I'll wait till I see the playable version, the video looked leagues ahead of any other game I've seen on PSP.

Leagues? NFS Underground looked very impressive
Consider the Dreamcast had an older weaker version of the PSP's processor, now on top of that DC's native resolution was 640x480, the PSP has a little less than that on a much smaller screen, the RAM in the PSP is 4 times higher than the DC and the grpahics card is also superior, besides things like NURBS will give the PSP superiority in some places even to the PC, its going to be pretty impressive to say the least and overtime the graphics will improve like they did with the PS2.

Now i got a idea that besides a handheld portable system if psp could also work as a AUDIO/VIDEO work,i mean if it could be connected with TV it would be great. When at home play on TV when somewhere else use its LCD. :D

PSP could get so amazing if sony does everything right (the 2 most important things for me are atm: starting apps off the memory sticks (a broser or so), an AVout and a good OS with many functionality (so u can use it as a PDA))

Yup! It's so cool to bring along anywhere! especially when there are pretty girls around!
I just like to have my psp as an all around buddy, to keep me entertained whenever I don't feel like sleeping, or when I feel bored.

Very true they will only look slightly better as the PSP becomes older.
CrumCon
06-29-2004, 07:02 PM
that is not true, just look at many ps2 1st generation games and then look at the 2nd generation ps2 games.. you will clearly see the improvement in the graphics.
Many big games like like GT4 looks great for a 4 years old ps2 console.. but they could release the game in the early 2003 if they wants to.. but they dont dont like to rush their big name app.

Thats partly correct but not totally because i dont think we will seee as bigger improvment in the PSP graphics like we have seen in the PS2.

There will definetly be an improvement just don't expect one as big as ps2 games have improved.

I supose it also depends on the life of the PSP i think 5 years at the most but sony have said they want it too last much longer then that.

But if PSP uses a cut down version of the PS2 EE and GS, then how can the PSP games get better with time when PS2 games aren't looking any better?
Developers have got the most that they can out of PS2, they've mastered it, they don't need to master PSP, like I said, it's basically a cut down PS2.

PS2 games are looking better though.

06-29-2004, 09:26 PM
So therefore the graphics should get better like with the PS2!!!
NickSCFC
06-29-2004, 09:29 PM
No, because PS2 graphics have reached their peak, with PSP being the same it's the same development.
If they can go no further with PS2 graphics, it means exactly the same for PSP graphics.

From what i've seen i highly doubt that. But it won't have the flexibility the Ps2 has neither.

Wekll it won't get any better than PS2 graphics that's for sure!
Might as well post this here, a video of various PSP games, don't think anyone here's seen it, just scroll to the bottom and wait for it to load.

That's still to be seen! The Psp does have hardware advatages the Ps2 doesn't so it wouldn't need to emulate those with software.
Tales of Eternia is the only game that hasn't been run through an emulator so far, so who's to say if GT4 is the best thing we'll see on the PSP.
I'll let you into a little secret - most of the companies I know are actually using PS2 TOOL systems to develop their PSP games on. Thats about as close to PSP hardware people are gonna get until september.

If you are talking about the clear plastic "dealy" with the letters and numbers on it, that is sometimes seen on top of the PSP, then I believe that is the PSP keyboard.

If you saw E3 access DVD...You would know that PSP is made to be a PS2 on the road...and yes I think that it will surpass DC/PS2 because pound for pound PSP wins those battles.
