Anyone know anything about Official PSP Magazine? What are the chances of demos?

I think that they will include a UMD demo, but I get the feeling that they would increase the price of it a little bit. Perhaps something like £6.50.

If they don't include a UMD demo, then they would probably use a DVD and just have previews.

Maybe they'll just cut down on magazine content to keep the price at £5, after all, PSP is not as big as PS2, and there probably won't be as many games to review each month.

Good point, I was just thinking that UMD's are probably a little bit more expensive to produce.

Don't they do that with the PS2 demos?

Kiwi

well if sony get directly involved with it, maybe they could save money on the UMD side of it

Sony would have to get directly involved, as they're the only ones who can write data onto UMD's at the moment.

Nah, I'd get the launch issue like I do with all systems I buy, then I'd just carry on buying Edge instead :D

I hope they do do an official PSP mag and not tag it onto the PS2 magazine.

As for demos, a UMD can't be THAT much more than a DVD/PS2 demo disc, but it like people have said, it will be down to SOny's envolvement.

I'll probably get the launch issue, and if it's good subscribe, otherwise it's Edge for me too.

Sony doesn't choose what will come on the demo's, the game company's need to pay quit a high price to have them published.

im sure thell just put 2 demo discs in OPM. one ps2 and one psp. it would be cheaper. and they dont really need a whole nother magazine for the psp

The US just has the Official U.S. Playstation magazine, and it just has a PS2 disc so I don't know about a UMD demo disc...

Downloadable Demos. Download onto Flash Media and play.

Maybe with some codes that you'll find in the PS2 Official Magazines and that you have to put in their web site in order to download the demos!

So it's a "PlayStation" magazine? I guess it covers PS1, PS2 and PSP?

im not sure about how they would have there demos ..but if i took a guess i would say it would ether be the umd in the magazine ..or there would be a code inside the mag that u put into a website so u can download prevues to the psp through a usb cable ...just what i think

yes, there's also a possibility that they will host it in gaming sites, or the game companies themselves will host up their own demos.

i think a UMD in the magazine is more possible because they are really cheap as i heard and also think of the size of a game.
even a demo could have over 100MB and not very much ppl will have a that big mem stick. maybe 50% of the PSP users will have a big stick i think and they don't want to waste all the space on it for only 1 demo they mostly want it for music...

I agree, but always make an exception especially when it concerns their money. And besides, if they will need more than 1 umd disc in order to include all the demos that will be releaesd.

what do you think?

Tom
07-01-2004, 02:25 PM
What.. so you think that to put "all" the demos onto 1 UMD coul not be achieved? There won't be THAT many playable demos on the disc. I mean, if you think you can't fit a few demos onto a disc then you're noway going to fit a whole game onto one are you - think about it!

Plus, i read that UMDs were pretty cheap to make so it shouldn't be a problem.

what I meant was all the demos that different companies would want to released!

And besides, console games are not like PC games that are compressed, that should be installed to be played.

let's take Final Fantasy for PS as an example, most of the time it's more than 3 cd's right? and So, if Final Fantasy will be released by Square for a demo, and GT4 would want to release their demo, and other companies as well like AC, Twisted Metal, and etc. do you think they will all fit in one UMD?

you do the math. :D

Depends on how much content you get for each individual game on the demo.

My PS2 came with a demo disc on CD, it had 4 playable demos. Basiacally individual PSP demos will have the same amount of content as the PS2 ones.

The number of demos per disc will be limited by the UMD size.

hm. i don't think a demo is bigger than maybe 200-400MB's so there is enough space for 4-8 demos. (maybe even more because there will sureely be smaller ones) and i don't think there are that many demos coming out every month.
and if so they just put some in the next month issue or if there are really much more they just put 2 UMD's into the magazine and make a "special edition with 2 UMD's" for 2$ more 8)

you think so? PSM magazine confirmed 42 games coming out for PSP next year 2005.

And how about the movie trailers, I'm sure they will try to include that too,

but you should consider that not everyone shares the same opinion.
Let's say you like racing games so much, and of course, you'll be more favorable with all racing games. If there are 20 games and only one of them is racing, then are you going to say there is only 1 good game that had been released?

its bigger than regular ps2 size demo disk which is less than 1.5

Kiwi
07-26-2004, 05:26 PM
If the demo disks used in magazines are the regular CD's, then it's 650MB, otherwise they use the 4.7GB DVD's.

demo disks i think are about 650 or 800

I can only speak for the UK PS2 magazine, but most demo disks were just CD-ROM for the first few months, then it's been single-layer DVD-ROM from then to now.

If a UMD only costs as much as a DVD to make I can't see why they wouldn't throw them on front of magazines.

Kiwi
08-01-2004, 09:37 AM
As Sony are the only ones at present who can write data onto the UMD's, then the only magazine around will be the official magazine.

gamingmonkey2004
08-02-2004, 01:27 AM
well the way i like to think of it is that isnt a normal CD kind of fragile too? and with the plasticlike case thingy the UMD is in that might protect it from the tossing of a magazine in the mail or w/e.

I predict that the Official Playstation Magazine will have a PSP section. It will become the Sony equivelant of Nintendo Power.

Well in America Official PlayStation Magazine covers PlayStation, PlayStation 2, PSP and PlayStation 3, am I right?

In the UK, the original PlayStation magazine launched with the console in 1995 and it was great, then Official PlaySttaion 2 magazine came out (which was poor) and the other was just ditched. So in the UK, I'd expect a, Official PSP magazine.

Your right the playstation magazine in America (PSM) covers all playstation consoles. but right now its only PS2 and not much of PS1 and i do expect that they will half the magizine for PS2 and PSP then later move PS3 into PS2s slot.

Famitsu Plans PSP Magazine
Special issue to commemorate launch of Sony's new system.
November 14, 2004 - The editors of Japan's popular Famitsu game magazine will be producing a special issue focusing on the PSP, parent company Enterbrain revealed at its website today. Famitsu PSP will be released as a special extra issue for the 1/14 issue of bi-weekly PS2-only magazine Famitsu PS2. The publication date is 12/10, two days before the launch of the PSP itself, with an expected cost of 490 yen.

While editorial content for the issue hasn't been revealed, there will be some bonuses included for PSP fans. A strap which contains an LCD screen cleaner will be included along with some sort of seal. No pictures have been revealed for either of these items.

If you want to make sure and get this bonus issue in America, the magazine's book code is 26466-01/14.
