I will start this thread specifically to talk about psp racing games i will start it off with NFSU:

Need for Speed Underground Impressions

If the video demonstrations shown at Sony’s pre-E3 press conference are representative of the PSP’s final performance, then the system should be a pretty amazing piece of hardware. Sony showed a handful of interesting-looking demos of first- and third-party software, but it was EA’s demo reel that stood out the most.

Need for Speed Underground is the latest iteration of the long-running Need for Speed series. It focuses on street racing in the vein of The Fast and the Furious and allows you to drive and customize a number of real cars. At today’s press conference, EA announced plans to bring the series to Sony’s new PSP. The demo video looked really impressive, and perhaps only a step or two below the game’s performance on the PlayStation 2. But there’s a bit of a catch.

The demos shown by EA during the press conference were created and run on early PC-based emulators that were developed with the previously announced PSP specs in mind. So the demos aren’t 100 percent representative of the PSP’s final performance.

Will the PSP be able to run such impressive-looking handheld software? We may not know the answer to that for some time. Need for Speed Underground for the PSP is scheduled to ship during the first quarter of 2005

NFSU on a 16:9 screen would be sweet, but I think I'll stick with my PS2 version =)

Who's up for a little cell shaded kart action! PSP's the first handheld that can do cell shading, or true 3D for that matter lol, but this looks like a fun multiplayer game ^^

In my opinion NFSU did not capture the feeling of street racing. The whole game had arcade like AI and no realism in the actual cars. I mean I could not even see how much horse power I was packing under the hood. To me that is a big dissapointment and the fact that a fully modded skyline could be beat by an impreza rs. Thats not even the wrx or the sti so realistically I cannot say I want the same experience on my psp.
One game that I can say that I would definitely buy if it came on the psp is street racing syndicate. This game has the realism and the depth that a car enthusiast such as myself would enjoy. But if you like the simplicity of NFSU then by all means buy it, but I do not want to wait 10 months just to get the port of NFSU. Instead I would rather have a port to a more timely release appropriate game like NFSU 2. Well thats my opinion.

NFSU2 would be better.

Your right it didnt appeal to the more hardcore car modders.

I doupt they would make something exactly the same to the console one that would make it sell less.

Yeah the way they hyped this up its got to be something new.

Isnt GT the best selling racing series of all time?

richjwild
06-13-2004, 09:28 PM
according to the guisness world record book 2001:

"BEST SELLING DRIVING SIMULATOR-
Gran Turismo Real Driving Simulator, a Sony Playstation game, had sold 7 million units worldwide by Feb 2000. The game was developed by Polyphoney digital, a satellite company of Sony Computer Entertainment. A sequel Gran Turismo 2, was launched in 1999, and Gran Turismo 2000 is one of the headline titles showcasing the 'Emotion Engine' processor of the PS2"

Kiwi
06-13-2004, 10:04 PM
Haha, why the hell would they put it in the Guiness Book of World Records?

richjwild
06-13-2004, 10:24 PM
cos its just so great. notice gran turismo 2000? was that the origional name for GT3?

Kiwi
06-13-2004, 10:34 PM
Yep. They originally thought it would be released in 2000, but alas, it wasn't. Hence the name A-spec.

richjwild
06-13-2004, 10:35 PM
what does a-spec mean then?

Kiwi
06-13-2004, 10:37 PM
Alpha Specification perhaps?

richjwild
06-13-2004, 10:38 PM
what does that have to do with it not coming out in 2000?

Kiwi
06-13-2004, 10:40 PM
Well they couldn't name it 2000 when it wasn't being released in 2000. So they just came up with something totally different.

alternate_ending
06-14-2004, 01:22 AM
Yeah, they named it a bunch of different things actually. Depending where you are in the world, its called Gran Turismo 3 or Gran Turismo A-Spec.
Whereas down here in Australia we get the bullshit long winded version:
Gran Turismo 3:A-Spec
