Sony Plans Big for PSP
Ten million units in one year? Read on.

May 21, 2004 - In an interview with Japan's Mainichi Shimbun, Sony reps made a few additional comments regarding the company's upcoming PSP portable gaming system. Here's a sampling of the interview dealing specifically with the PSP:

"SCE plans to release the PSP (Play Station Portable) in fall of 2004. Sony is in development with an exclusive new optical disk medium called UMD (diameter 6 centimeters) for software storage. The device will be able to play movies and music and is being designed for wireless network connectivity. We plan to ship around Ten million units within the first year, so the portable market will most certainly become a new battlefield for us. Nintendo will not be able to sit by idly."

Whew! Ten million sounds like an awful lot of units to us, suggesting that pricing will be friendlier than what many were initially expecting having heard the big feature list for the product.

2004 can't come soon enough! Stay tuned for all the info we can scrounge up on Sony's new portable platform.

Wow so it will be wireless, there was some rumors that they removed that fuction do to cost but i guess they were wroung.

BTW Luanch in Japan 2004, Luanch in US 2005, Luanch Everywhere else Later-2005. This could also be a rumor so don't quote me on this.

Yes it will have built in wireless. All that rumours crap is being spread by fanboys. I suggest everyone watch the Sony e3 conferense, everything is stated as clear as day I don't get where everyone else get's their information lol.

By the way that it is written, it looks like they didn't know a lot about the PSP. So it probably was from last year's E3.

Heh. Well March has been set for Europe, so I guess the US will get it a little beforehand.
