He looks cool, and he sort of remind me of Zack or Michael McDonald. His stance doesn't seem to be that of Muai Thai though. What type of fighting style do you think he'll have?

Looks like something out of Mortal Kombat, I don't like this direction Tekken is taking.

Looks good to me. I can't wait to see what Tekken 5 information they have at E3. Plus you can't see his whole costume. You can't judge a game by one screen Nick. To me it looks like he's using caperiora, Eddy's style. Plus I couldn't see the screen at first either so I just typed the address into the address bar.

The series has become far too Americanised, I loved the traditional Japanese style of Tekken and Tekken 2, the music was great too. This character belongs in a Mortal Kombat game, not a Tekken one.
Why would he belong in MK rather than Tekken? Look at some of the other characters in Tekken. He doesn't look that out of place with everybody else to be honest.
If they were heading in the direction of MK we would definately know about it.

He fits right in with the other Tekken characters just fine. Look at Jack, Bryan Fury, Kuma (a bear) and combat. What makes him out of place?
Yoshimitsu as well. Tekken is just as far-fetched as Mortal Kombat is.

Always has and always will be. Now I can't wait for some screens of the game.

Can't you see the pic? The first post and i have it isible without a link.
There's an article on Gamespot (http://www.gamespot.com/) which has a stream of the trailer now:
Namco dropped a wicked one-two combo on fighting gamers today, releasing both screenshots of and footage from Tekken 5. The game, whose existence was only revealed last week, will be on display on at E3 this week.
But for those who can't make it down to the Los Angeles Convention Center (or are turned away by the layers of security when they get there), the pictures and trailer reveal some details about the upcoming beat'-em-up.
Besides the revamped graphics and tweaked fighting mechanics--which look as though they might be based on a new engine--the screens and trailers showed which Tekken characters would be returning to fight another day. Kazuya, King, Marshall Law, Ling Xiaoyu, Julia Chang, Steve Fox, Nina Williams, Lei Wulong, Paul Phoenix, and Hwoarang will join three new characters--Raven, Feng Wei, and Kazama Asuka in the ring when the game.
Given the paucity of factual information Namco has released about Tekken 5, which was only given one line in the company's E3 press release, it’s likely more information will be revealed soon.

Those graphics are incredible. Namco has out done themselves. Maybe this is the Tekken wev'e been waiting for since Tekken 3. It surely looks so.
Well apparently they're using a totally different engine for this one. From what they've shown, it looks a lot more promising than the previous game.
Tekken 4 may have lost the battle of popular opinion with arch-rival Virtua Fighter 4, but Namco is stealing the lead with the fifth in the series - first shots have been shown at this week's E3 in Los Angeles.
Joining the cast this time around are serious looking martial artist Feng Wei, presumably-some-relative-of-Jin Asuka Kazama and Wesley-Snipes-in-Demolition-Man-style Raven. If you check out the screens you'll see old favourites like Paul Phoenix and Jin Kazama are still alive and kicking - apparently Heihachi Mishima is dead, but we suspect the old coot will be lurking somewhere in the shadows.
Tekken 5 is set to hit arcades this year, with console versions following in 2005. No details on what formats yet though - cross your fingers for a Soul Calibur 2-style, all-platforms release.

There are plenty more screens available from the above url...
Ahh there's no way Heihachi would be dead, even though he is older than the dinosaurs. :)
He'll probably be the end boss.

Well from the screens you can see that Jin is back and Jack (looks like Jack2) is back. Its good to see Jack because he looks much better than he has in any other game and is much more realistic.
I was never a big fan of fighting games, but I always loved the Tekken series... It should bring back the memories of trying to complete Tekken 2 with all the characters just to see their ending movies... :(

I'm so excited about this because Tekken is my favorite fighting game and I was disapponted in Tekken 4 but I felt like it had a lot of potential. It looks like Namco answered a lot of the questions and problems I had with the game. Graphics wise namely the backrounds and the special effects. Tekken 4 had the most boring backrounds of any fighting game. The labortory was a dark empty room with smoke in it.The airport was a flat plane with planes. The backrounds are finnaly up to par with other games and i'm impressed. Now I need to hear how they changed the gameplay and modes before I comment on these. Now I feel like the quality the game once had will be back and will really push the franchise forward instead of standing still.

I've never been a huge fan of fighting games either. Tekken, JoJo's Bizzare Adventure and Guilty Gear are the only ones that I actually enjoy playing.

I never played Jo Jo or Guilty Gear but I want to. The new Guilty Gear looks great though. Thats the problem with Capcom, there to lazy with there 2-D games and wonder why 2-D games aren't selling as well as they could. Sammy is a smaller company and they make next-gen 2-d games with hi-res sprites.

Tekken is ok, but Mortal Kombat will Rule Forever...
Ahh I don't know, MK isn't quite what it used to be. Saying that, Tekken has had it's highs and lows as well.
Mortal Kombat... Hummm. It was just the blood and guts thing that got me hooked on that. Tekken was a rock solid beat-em-up... Lovely stuff.
But MK is a lot more fun. I've never really found Tekken that exciting, that's maybe why I like the OTT style of games like MK, JoJo and GG.

So you don't like Tekken? I thought MK:DA was good but I didn't really like the fighting system. It felt to limited and the animations could have been more realistic. I've always thought Tekkens fast paced fighting system was fun and exciting.
i hear talk of the next DoA on X-box having online play. . . is there an talk of Tekken 5 following in these footsteps.
despite all the improvements there was not a great deal of improvement in the quality of the AI. . . once you really know a character it was never hard to beat the computer in a fight. . . tekken 4 i had mastered at the hardest setting in a matter of days. . . (because it was only a question of getting used to the admendments) and beating survival mode at 40 or so palyers was the only real challenge.
they got to get it online. its the biggest step forward the game could take for me
julps31
05-27-2004, 12:53 AM
Well the newest DOA is called DOA:online and is a combination of the first games and the second game with better grahics than 3. I think that Tekken ccould be made much better without online play. The worst thing about Tekken 4 was the replay value. You play through, get all the characters and there basically wasn't anything else to do after that. There was no good extras to keep you hooked. DOA has unlockable costumes, Virtua Fighter had the Kumite and unlockable items, soul caliber had weapons, arenas, and costumes you could buy, same with mortal kombat, but what did Tekken have? Nothing. So if they create an system of unlockables it could be much better.
KlawHammer
05-27-2004, 02:22 AM
I agree. Theres also no need to get it online really as you would get the same effect if you got a multitap....
julps31
05-27-2004, 06:36 PM
Exactly. You can play one on one with your friends or a family member, and 2 on 2 with a multitap. What they should focus on is the environments, the characters, and the game play modes to improve the game.

New Tekken 5 information!! Spoilers and confirmed characters. From Tekken zaibatsu:
"Tensaikun has once again tapped his trusty sources in Japan and was able to confirm the return of Bruce Irvin and Anna Williams to the Tekken arena! Also heard through the grapevine is that Heihachi isn't really dead... big surprise.
The upcoming issue of Arcadia magazine has an interview with some of the Tekken 5 developers and they were pretty liberal with the spoilers and hints. A big thanks to Vindicator for providing the translation.
Infinite fields are back again
Kuma is a time release character
Raven uses Ninjitsu as we speculated
They are adding stuff like lasers & fire (Devil & True Ogre coming back?)
There will be many breakable objects on stage but they do not affect gameplay
Position change has been removed and left/right throws are back
A Soul Calibur II conquest mode is being considered
Juggling system is going back to how it was in Tekken Tag
The low parry is being adjusted (hopefully this means no more universal parry!)
Lots of new arts are being added, especially for some particular characters
The wall system is being changed to be more fun"
It sounds like namco is learning from their mistakes on Tekken 4. Can't wait to hear more information about it.

Cool, nice to see that they're trying to improve on the series a lot more than previously.
julps31
05-29-2004, 10:57 PM
Yeah. I wasn't sure if Namco could really learn from their mistakes the way a lot of their games series go relatively unchanged from game to game but it seem like their addressing a lot of the problems I had with Tekken 4 in T 5. Good job Namco.

I'm tellin you. It sounds like the game is coming along very nicely. This could possibly be the best in the series. :D I know it's to early to say that but it sounds like it could be that good.

I beleive its early 2005. I think i've heard febuary but thats probably a estimated date.
It's coming to cinemas at the end of the year I think, and then 2005 for the consoles. I would take a guess at maybe Q1 or 2, along with the PSP launch.

Ripoff! Can't belive that Namco is going to pull this off... Ye old Tekken system doesn't really work 4 me anymore, Belive me when I say I loved 1 - 3. But then it came crashing down on PS2 I didn't really like the stiff models in TTT or in Tekken 4. The 4:th was the best good looking but poor on sound and characters. The thing I hate the most in Tekken games is the damn music....low quality keyboard crap (note that's my opinion not yours) Anyway here is new Info on Tekken 5.
:!:
Characters:
30 or 31 characters total.
Kuma will return.
The new Jack is Jack-5. P-Jack and GunJack take the place of Jacks 3 and 4, respectively. (wtf?! give jack a break already and scrap him)
Bruce Irvin will return. (yay?!)
Anna Williams will return.
There will be a sumo fighter that may be Ganryu.
Eddy Gordo will return (could still be a Christie duplicate).
Heihachi is not dead (even though the E3 trailer kind of says he is).
Gameplay:
Some stages scroll forever.
Wall interaction is still not entirely understood.
Wall push is removed.
Less realistic than Tekken 4 (lasers return).
Virtua Fighter 4-esque custom color mode is in place.
Possible reintroduction of the tag feature.
Did Namco make this game worse or what?? emm... Well I'd say yes, but you hardcore gamers are probably gonna like it. I wished they made the 5:th to PS3 instead...
Why create 30 characters when 15 have the same style? TTT jin, devil, kazuya, heihatchi *ROFL* not good at all.
I'd give: * points to
Tekken **
Tekken 2 ****
Tekken 3 *****
Tekken Tag Tournament **
Tekken 4 ***
Tekken 5 (BLARGH!!)

You can't rip on the game when you haven't even played it yet. It sounds like this could be the best yet. Also Tekken 4 took out the redundant characters like Jack (fights like Kuma), Anna (fights like Nina), Changed Jins style, and even though they share the same style Kazuya and Heihachi are different enough that they don't feel like the exact same character. I'm sure Namco's going to have people like Nina and Anna have different moves that keep them from felling the same. You can't tell me that the changes that Namco is making don't sound big and for the better. If I was you I'd be excited.

i say,
you are right and i guess if he is back in tekken5 namco should decrease his stamina by 40% to 50% because of his old age condition.
also i realize that tekken gameplay is now deteriorated, probably not with a serious gameplay like in tekken2 and tekken3.i think that TTT tournament is a shitt.with an idiotic type gameplay in which you cant play with a guaranteed victory[not made for champions gameplay],you could understand if you have mastery over t2 and t3 gameplay.
i am myself a master of poking in t3 and when i am on my day you cant defeat me a single fight.but this does not follow with TTT and t4.the main fault in TTT is the tagging technique[if you make a simple tag with ogre, howrang, lee, bruce, devil, kazuya, heihachi, king, armor king........and other players who cant reverse attack then you will get a straight phoenix smasher on your face or any similar power move.also it lack tag team throws and moves by which you can change your player.and the most frustrating sh*tty single moves moves like jin"s back+low kick and many similars.and why havent they increased king,nina,anna,bruce... multiple throws or neither any players strings.and what a fuck*ng background music.and now on t4 gameplay..........too slow and lowlevel as compared to t3.and therefore these games are flopping on arcade level.
what i think namco should follow is that dont increse the number of players[i just cant understand what baek,kunimitsu,p.jack,jack2,kazuya,anna.....all are doing in TTT if they already have more advanced players of there versions],instead they should involve more multiple throws for king, nina, bruce etc and add few more 10 hit strings for every player + some attractive and useful moves to some players.

Tekken Tag was just a compilation of 1, 2, and 3 with a tag feature, so stop complaining about all the characters on it. To me Tekken 5 looks to take the series back to the origanal Japanese feel that Tekken had. As a matter of fact I don't think Tekken ever did have a Japanese feel to it. Tekken 1 (stadium, building, moantain stage, snow levels). Since when were those considered Japanese?

so,julps if the series is not too far americanized from t3 then what the hell are players like eddy, christie, stevefox doin in t-series.......i simply hate there game play and the list continues of the similar characters.
and one more thing if you dont find TTT complaining then you dont know the worth of t3 or you are a newbie of tekken[and so i guarantee you a perfect victory in t2,t3 if the guard damage is off.] 8)
also i am not complaining about TTT for personal game play i am complaining for its arcade/versus game mode ........DAMN..NOT MADE FOR CHAMPIONS LIKE ME because of the idiotic changes made which i have earlier mentioned and there are many more reasons though.

Whats wrong with variety in the character line up? I geuss you just want all Japanese fighters and styles, huh. If you could'nt beat somebody in the game hey don't say it was the gameplay. The gameplay from tag is the same as 3. There might be small differences but not big enough to blame your loses on. If you ask me Tekken 3 was just as easy as Tag "Mr.Champion."
kevin197
06-05-2004, 08:34 AM
no,no julps you didnt got my point.i never said TTT is difficult i mean to say that the game could not be played with that accuracy as in t3.the problem with the game is that it is more easily adaptable to newbies because of some sh*tty moves, gameplan and loopholes speacially the tagging problem.now if your player could enter the game[tag partner] with every hit blocked then it would been better but with this problem now it is really difficult to cope because your 20-25% health mostly goes in tagging and so it is CURSE IN VERSUS GAME MODE.
also i realized one more problem with the game, now you might have observed in every fighting game[with finite time],when you and your partner have almost similar power gauge left sometimes you start playing defencive game[speacially in last 2-3 sec.] thinking you have more streangth left then your opponent and when game ends with timeout it is very irritating to realize that you were with lesser streangth before the time out when you were using defencive gameplay.now this problem is not complicated with single power gauge.but when you are dealing with double power gauges and both are having a recovery rate also then the mentioned problem could change the tide of the match.
so isnt it a serious loophole in the game?

But I have a right for whining, I mean I'm a consumer :P And spoiled.
You can't blame me for wanting the game better. I'm not "saying" it isn't, perhaps when I play the game I might get in to it's hype, but for now I'm discussing the "crappynes" about the prequels. And those news I posted last week or so, wasn't really good!!! "good." you know? Tekken needs to be:Faster, Longer, Harder sure :) But I doubt it, I really liked the DOA series because of it's fast moves and the counter system. But yeah, it was pretty plastic of the ideal woman don't you say? I mean half naked women....fighting ?? Bad idea.. I don't find it as a problem, just unneccesary. And some stuff are unneccewhatever (bad english)
....just bad...
Tekken 5½ for playstation 3 ???
Off for some coffee.....
julps31
06-10-2004, 03:35 PM
The prequels are behind us so lets look into the future not the past. Tekken 5 might be what you're asking for. Longer, faster, and maybe harder. And since when has Tekken been slow? So lets pay attention to this games potential not the past game failures. Okay?
We may as well just carry on the discussion in the Tekken thread now:
