View Full Version : Which of these games would play the best on PSP?

This is a list of the Top 10 Playstation games of all time as reported by GameSpy. This poll is not a question of personal preference, but rather, which game do you think would work best of PSP. Now, I realize that some personal preference will come in your decision, but please don't vote for a game that you think could never be ported correctly to the PSP (i.e. don't vote for GT if you think racing games can't be played on a portable device). The options are listed from #10 to #1 btw.

Note: My personal favorite PSOne game (Silent Hill) isn't on the list :(

I would think that quite a few of those games would be able to run very well on the PSP. I selected Final Fantasy VII myself, because it's a personal favourite.

I liked FFVII but it has to look alot better too....Maybe if they used Mpeg4
video compression it would work.

Personally I dont think RPGs would do very well on that type of a system. Nor metal gear type games, its more suited to short, lineir gameplay.

The GameBoy has done very well when it comes to RPG games. Golden Sun, Breath of Fire, and there's some others that I can't think of right now.

I can't see why there would be a problem. If the PSP is going to use disks with large data storage then they would probably be able to fit Final Fantasy VII on one disk, possibly two.

I would love to see FF VII on the PSP. I never really had the chance to do it justice and would love another crack at it -- portable style.

Apparently you have more time; more importantly the patients to sit in front of a dinky ass screen with horrible sound while playing an epic experience. To me it simply eleminates the whole point of both those games.

Tetris is the only reason for portable gameplay, other than, its absolutely pointless with the current state of the interface.

I'm not the only one. Golden Sun is one of the best games on the GBA so far. The WonderSwan (I know it's not exactly popular) has a lot of RPG games.

Handheld can also be a solution to people who can't get hold of a console, so Nintendo would want to cater for every type of gamer. Not everyone is after a quick fix.

I really want some sega classics on PSP.

For example, NiGHTS will make a great port. i still play the game from time to time when i have nothing to do. Plus, this is a game i'll remember forever and play when i'm like 60 to remember the good ol' days. I just hope my saturn will never die on me which unfortunately, will happen one day or another.

For those unlucky people who've never played this great game, its mostly 3D sidescroller so its gonna be great for handheld. Plus it's really good for playing for short period of time which handhelds are designed for. At least thats what i think.

Also Virtual fighter 2 and Kids will be great.

Same here! i got multiple super materias (or whatever they were called) and got all the summons, limit breaks, and weapons. its the only rpg i completed so fully and played thru so many times! wouldn't hurt to play the game again on a hendheld. They should also release FF9. yeah, that game was cool too.

If you read the openning post, you would see that I only included the Top 10 PSOne games as listed by GameSpy. THPS was not on their list, so I didn't include it in this one. No doubt it will be on the PSP (its on everything) so no need to worry ;)

Although the THPS series is multi-platform, it seems to be a series that a lot of people associate with Sony.

FFVII-2 is in consideration at SquareEnix. Nothing is set in stone (literally nothing) but many employees have expressed sentiment that they want to make the game. Whether or not it'd be on PS2, 3, or Portable is still up for grabs though. The article I read said it would most likely be on PSP though (this was an IGN article a couple months back)

Oh no, i hope square never make FFVII-2. After watching the trailer for FFX-2, i can't play FFX seriously no more. Also i hate it when sequels ruin the ending of the first game/movies. I would like FF7 remake tho, with better movies and graphic etc for PSP.

Well, why don't you start a thread about what new games people would like to see on the PSP. I started this thread, because I am looking forward to playing some of these games, as are other people. I do encorage you to start a new thread either about sequels or new games youcef2ld like to see on the PSP.

Also, where's GTA on this list?

ummm the PSP will have gfx like a mini dreamcast...almost ps2 quality but way better than psone

I would personally like to see some more graphically intense shooters on the PSP (for example; Raystorm, Einhander, R-Type, Gradius, Radiant Silvergun, Raiden, Viewpoint, N2O :) the list goes on....OH YEAH AND METAL SLUG    ).

Danji
08-20-2003, 12:35 PM
But the likely-hood of another mgs game is very small considering Hideo Kojima himself said that he didn't like all these MGS side-story and remakes (though that didn't stop him from vr missions and substance). But if that can't be on the psp then i would say the next best thing would be for them to have Tony Hawk 3&4 on it, just a two games in one deal like thps 2X for the xbox, it's also likely because i see that as the way that they play around with the hardware for the new testing ground. (xbox, gamecube didn'tget one though...) I personally think that the psp will be capable of graphics better than the ps2 as Ken Kutaragi said himself. I have full confidence that they will be something great to look at if they aren't that good though. My estimate is Red Faction would be very capable. The first one, i don't know about the second but i heard it was crap. In any case, tony hawk is an awesome game and definitely needs a game for the psp ready by launch. ^_^

08-20-2003, 12:37 PM
..Resident evil 2 would be terrible for a portable console imo...but i'd still play it.

I don't think that they will port the RE games to be honest, but then you never know.

Well as we all know Capcom is a bunch of money grubbing whores who rehash the game several times over instead of getting it right by working and refining it for a long time (no offense, i like the company but that's what they are). In example, megaman games... in my oppinion megaman 4-6 were just trying to get the mega buster down, four failed, and five it was too powerful they perfected it in megaman 6 and then actually made a new development to the game, 16-bits. In any case, the likelihood of them making a resident evil game is lower than them making an onimusha or devil may cry game for the psp because those series have sold a lot more than the resident evil series and could take advantage of the powerful hardware at hand. Also it is my oppinion that a devil may cry game is likely, the amount of buttons and the set-up of them is efficient for the control set-up of devil may cry. If they were to launch with this game it would sell to almost everyone who buys a psp, and that figure alone should tempt Capcom, not that they need much temptation to give into doing something that will get them money whether good or bad (Devil May Cry 2 *cough cough*). Once again, i'm not flaming them, i'm actually a fan of their games. (has all regular NES megaman games and ghosts and goblins) It is also likely that sega will be making a game of some sort (likely to be a sonic remake) for psp. Such as sonic N or sonic adventure (that'd be awesome).

Kiwi
08-25-2003, 09:17 PM
There's bound to be a Sonic game on the PSP, it just wouldn't be right without one! :)

I have to agree with you about your comments on Capcom. Although I love the games that they make, it does look like they focus more on the money than the gamers.

As I have said in my other posts, I am a HUGE fan of japanese style games...you name it, anime, manga, imports, ricers, ddr, I love it all... Now, Final Fantasy 7 got my vote, in any poll for it makes me feel warm and fuzzy...  ....IS IT ACTUALLY POSSIBLE TO SEE THAT HOTTIE, TIFA ON THE PSP SCREEN? SONIC IS A MUST HAVE ASWELL! Well...I am going to try to form a petition and maybe if anyone would like to help, we could get it to square or sony.... any idea's??? BTW, this petition, could also include other games...

PLEASE POST, ANY IDEAS!

IN my opinion mortal combat would be a great game to play hand held, simply because it has a some what stationary backround.. i dont no about you but, its kinda hard to play games with a far backround on a small scale screen.... if they do make a "sonic" game , i suggest that they make it from the classic side view like on sega genisis, just with amazing graphics... just my opinion ... im only 16 srry if i offened you!

The most appealing game to me seems to be Vampire Saviour! ;¨) truely great! I hope more classics will be released! yes I agree, Metal Slug 1-4, Gradius, R-Type, perhaps even Blazing Star and Pulstar.
The only really sad thing is that they haven't made it posible to play it tated so no vertical shooters (the best) for psp if there isn't a dualshock-for-psp made standard :¨I, sure you can tate it and use d-pad for playbuttons and analog for d-pad but I doubt any game-company would dare release games for such a solution.

you can't play RSG on a widescreen without tate.. but it would sertainly be one of the first ones of interest if it's tateable and by that profitable.
as Treasure is still quite alive and seem healthy I guess we should think of RSG for PSP as possible! it'd surely be sought after as not many have ever played it but have been influenced to believe it's this godsent best-shooter-ever-made ;¨P. I would love RSG with as pretty 3D as it's 2D and I'd remodify a homebuilt arcadestick for the psp in a day when made possible! ;¨D

what I'm really hoping for is Progear (hori-shmup by Cave for cps2 arcade)! as they're currently producing shmups more healthily than any other company and Arika seem positive about porting their games for consoles PSP should be a quite possible candidate for a Progear port! :¨D
I'd say that'd be the best PSP-port I can think of.
Ahhhrrr, the excitement!!

PuyoPop is developed by Sonic Team, so apparently Mean Bean Machine is part of the PuyoPop series.

Here's some information on the most recent of the games anyway, which will also be on the PSP:
