Well, I put a half hour in it, and its pretty damn crazy. Killed four people with one nice shot by a flying radiator.

I get a bit of lag when a lot is going on, so I'm kinda forced to stay in 10-15 player maps.

I heard about the lag. I have DLed it so far, but have not played it since I am at work.

I doubt that I will have much time to play tonight since I have a dinner meeting, but I will probably get some time in tomorrow.

I did play a little single player H2 last night. I just started the Ravenholm chapter (I am pacing myself so I dont beat it in one sitting). Wow, I love setting the Head Crab Zombies on fire and slinging blades at them with the gravity gun. :D

Well, cool thing with the Half Life 2 game is first, you can purchase through Steam, which means you dont even have to leave the house. Additionally, there is no sales tax online. ;)

The silver package is a great deal since you get HL2, new HL2 Deathmatch, HL source, CS source, DoD source (not availible yet), and the back catalog (which is a bunch of older games - HL, CS, DoD, TFC, DMC, Ricochet, CS:CZ with bonuses)

Pretty good deal.

I wouldn't really call it a surprise, there was always a deathmatch mode in the in-game console window and shit, people were playing deathmatch before this release with their own maps.
