Do we know what this is? Beyond it being a FF title.

I hope SE gets back to the top next-gen.

I'm hoping Japan as a whole comes back next-gen.

I was just going to sneak in an edit to say that :) And to add the story looked interesting and graphic style looked excellent in that tech demo (frosty posted a vid of it in an article).

I certainly hope so.

I wish they could pit this much effort into gameplay and story.

It was pretty, but stopped about there for me, didn't think the story was anything particularly original. I get that it's a tech demo, but FF hasn't been interesting in any way for me for a while. Pretty just isn't enough to get me hyped these days.

I think the story in the demo was pretty good considering we don't know the characters, and they are trying to tell a story without the time to introduce them.

Here's the video of the engine demonstration if anyone hasn't seen it yet. Looks like the infamous Killzone E32005 trailer will be accomplished this coming generation.

The difference to this and KZ2 E3 CG trailer is... that you can actually see "rendering artifacts" that don't happen in offline rendering. Like high frequency noise and such.

Yes, especially in this picture, the aliasing in the hair, the low-res texture on the coat, still looks damn impressive but still has issues. We also have Unreal Engine 4 tomorrow night to see how the four that have been shown match up.

What other tech demos did we see?

I'm talking more next-gen stuff we've seen including watch_dogs, star wars 1313, UE4 and this.

Ah, I see. My money is on UE4 winning btw :) The versatility UE3 showed this gen (after the initial 'everything looks clay' phase), is simply amazing. It's super powerful under that it can do pretty much everything at highest level and most of the time look the best too.

What's the countdown till the showing btw?

Yeah, hopefully they have learned from their mistakes this gen.

Though I am still waiting to play Type-0.

I like how Square is debuting their next-gen engine and asking people about the direction of FFXV when VersusXIII has yet to see the light of day. I wonder if they're pushing back development to next-gen consoles?

By the way, a sequel to Deux Ex on this engine would be INCREDIBLE!!!

Nice to see that both eastern and western developers are getting ahead of time with their engines. I wonder how these demos would compare to actual game cutscenes in next gen games a couple of years from now.

I just thought about the same thing. The gap is certainly getting very close if this tech demo really is a representation of what a next gen FF can look like in-game. There's still a difference obviously, but it looks so damn good that I assume it would be hard to tell, especially during all this fast pace action these games tend to have going on perhaps even more than before. As for FF and SE, I guess I would rather have them use their resourses to the story telling instead of CGI cut scenes next gen at this point. But then again CGI has always been a great part of the series... There certainly is not as much contrast as there used to be even now in the current gen so they might consider dropping it and do it like Uncharted with in game cutscenes.

This is bringing me memories from the good old times. "in-game cgi graphics a reality" and all, you know! If this tech demo is anything to judge from I would say that next gen will convince even the most dedicated non believers lol.

I just have a hard time getting excited about anything SE considering their record this gen.

To be perfectly honest, we might be forgetting that SE showed the infamous FFVII realtime demo at the PS3 reveal in 2005 and that was nothing but LIES compared to what we really got in the end.

Well, a tech demo meant to show off one console and a game meant to run on multiple consoles are two different things, but i get the point.

Nobody said this was a game at all though.

Killzone no, no game has come close to achieving that level of fidelity, but I think they FF7 demo has been visually achieved.

Don't get me wrong. What I'm saying is that the demo made gamers think we would get a FF game in that quality and scale, and when you look at FF13 it's nothing like that in any way.

masteratt

Nobody said this was a game at all though.

They did a survey asking us how we liked the character and how interested we are to find out more about the universe. So I think it's a concept that is somewhat far into development and unless there is an overwhelming negative response (which there wasn't, in fact quite the opposite), that's probably the next FF.

I took a real shine to the main character of the tech demo and like her more than all XIII characters combined already.

Fair enough, I think I misunderstood frosty's point anyway. He was comparing the 7 tech demo to the 13 game, not this demo as I thought.

Looking back at this timedemo (FF7)... it's really not that special anymore (I am currently replaying UC3^^)
