I just don't see the Next Xbox or Playstation console close enough for this to be even for those consoles. I don't even feel those consoles are developed enough for such a thing.
I feel right now, this may be a Wii U & PC title.

Well the studio is doing two other triple A games so who knows how much they've worked on this. I could see late 2013 early 2014 as a release date.

Ha ha Wii U, comedian you.
Good time to be a PC Gamer, this is going to be incredible. Ubisoft have returned to greatness. They just need to set a date for Beyond Good and Evil 2 to be my new favorite company.

Nintendo need to have a machine capable of running this. I'm fairly confident they will, but Nintendo have been right tarts about their machine's specs!
BahnNZ
06-10-2012, 08:28 AM
Well it'll run it. 360 will run it, question is how well. If it's a 2013/2013 release then you're real going to want it on your XBox Next/PS4 as a launch title.
This is a PC title running on a couple of GTX680s and a boss i7 Extreme or similar. Wii U Specs definitely not close, even vaguely, to the machine that was running that demo.
Tell you who I'm sorry for, the Sleeping Dogs guys. They may have to change the name again, their open world dogs been one upped.
TimmyJ

Agreed, Sleeping Dogs is facing another potential problem. Although, I reckon this game's title is likely to change come its release.
And when it comes to running this game, I think a game like this should provide the WiiU with a solid target to hit.

Most promising next-gen gameplay yet for me.
Most promising next-gen gameplay yet for me.
Out of interest what is you take on a GTA V vs Watch Dogs?
It is the first time in a very long time that i have seen a new element like electronics change up the usual range of dynamic gameplay possibilities in a open world game. That was fun to watch. The hot swap things tries to change things up in GTA V but other developers have failed miserably in the past trying it so what is your take? I am sure Rockstar will do better though but is it enough? Also should we be worried that last gen consoles like Wii U, PS3 and 360 could hold back elements like AI in Watchdogs? I didn't see anything particularly smart from enemies or pedestrians.
Anyway don't take this as a GTA bash comment. Both will probably be great but which game and development team do you think is pushing the boundaries more?
masteratt

I've replied on the GTAV thread but will add here that you really don't need to add stuff like:
Anyway don't take this as a GTA bash comment.
As long as you give reason and thought behind your opinion, I never cared if you bash the game, and I love having a discussion about games and disagreements makes them more interesting (again, if done with respect). Note I did not backlash at your GTA rants previously and even agreed with some your points. But to me the game as a whole is so amazing they become non-issues.
Also let's not forget I picked Infamous over GTAIV as my favourite around 08-09, so I am not as big a GTA nutter as you might think. Don't get me wrong, I'll be like a kid waiting for Christmas leading up to the launch but I am not blind to it's flaws.
Back to Watch_Dog, developer made the game sound utter shite on PS3 :) So these cross-gen versions sounds like they will be "yeah it's for PS4 but just for money sake we'll put a version on previous gen".
I hope the other elements feel next gen because i got the distinct impression that the character was walking through Assassins Creed level AI scripting. It is about time we got an update on this from Ubisoft for next gen. I love their games but the AI needs work.

I feel like I'm the only one who didn't think Watch Dogs didn't look that hot, but I also feel like I'm just missing something.
The sheer wonder of Infamous and others stole the show for me. I mean Watch Dogs looks really good visually and everything, but I think also the idea of it hasn't captured me very much. I'm not that interested in more GTA type games other than GTA personally. I think the dark, serious tones of some games is gradually turning me off from all those types of games now.

I agree Infamous looks the best of the whole bunch but weren't you just a little impressed by the hacking electronics dynamic? How he takes out the car with the barricade or changing robot signals. Hell my imagination is spinning to ideas of cutting power and stealthing Sam Fisher style in darkness to take out targets in a building. Hacking drones for awesome firepower. Causing subway crashes. Taking out jet liners. It could be good fun.
Still i am thinking maybe the multi generation development might be holding it back a little in certain aspects.

I just watched the HD video actually.... I think I'm gonna say the graphics actually do look really good, it was much more stunning in direct feed HD. I think the visuals were lost on me watching the sort-of-HD stream....
^^Yea I was impressed, I just think I missed out how sharp it looked from the stream version lol.

'Watch Dogs' will be "pushed further" on PS4, "easier" to develop for. (http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/gaming/news/a461011/watch-dogs-will-be-pushed-further-on-ps4-easier-to-develop-for.html)
Watch Dogs' PS4 version has been discussed by Ubisoft Montreal.
While the upcoming open-world title will be the same across all versions, senior producer Dominic Guay said the PS4 pushes all aspects of the game further.
"I guess the image I would give [compared to PS3] is that it's like a magnifying lens," he told Digital Spy.
"Every core pillar of the game is able to be pushed further. We're able to push the immersion. The fidelity of the graphics is one part of the immersion, but it's more than graphics.
"I'll give you small examples; it's like the fidelity of the wind, how it will have everything reacting as it blows through the city, the AI reaction when something happens, every AI has to make a decision on how they'll react to it.
"We can spend more time in the brain of each AI with a more powerful machine, saying, 'OK, how will I react to what just happened there? Where will I run to? Will I call the cops?', or stuff like that.
"Fundamentally the core, innovative part of Watch Dogs is the same on every platform. But on PS4 we're able to push every lever a lot further."
Watch Dogs will use the PlayStation 4's new touch pad to control Aiden Pearce's phone in-game, something which is described as a "direct translation" and a "really cool" feature.
The studio, however, is undecided whether the game will use the light and camera positioning system.
Guay is also a fan of the controller's improvements to existing inputs - such as the analogue sticks and triggers - saying they are "a lot tighter".
"We have a game with driving, shooting, a lot of navigation, so we need tight inputs - they did a pretty good job with that," he said.
Guay also went into detail about PS4 development, saying that it's "definitely easier to get in" as a platform.
"We did fine with the PS3 at Ubisoft Montreal, but we spent more time getting through the hurdles, if you want. We spent more time getting through the first hurdles because we could get our games to look good on the platform," he said.
"Now, very, very quickly we got Watch Dogs on [PS4], and it looks good, and we're happy with the performance and that's a good sign, and we're able to push the immersion level and interactivity of our game instead of trying to get things to work."
Discussing the surprise announcement of 8GB DDR5 RAM at the PS4 reveal on February 20, Guay said that it was "great" and discussed the benefits of having fast memory.
"If you have a lot of memory but it's very, very slow, it's not as useful," he said.
"[PS4 has] very fast memory. I mean, 8GB of RAM. What that means in short is that there's a lot less limit on your creators, on our artists, and details and the diversity of what they can create.
"For an open world game like Watch Dogs it also means something very important because if you have a game that happens in a small corridor, yeah, you can put a lot of detail in the corridor.
"Our game's in an open city where you can get into a very fast sports car and drive at 150 miles an hour, so typically what happens then is that you'll trade off scale or density but we don't want to do that, because in Watch Dogs you can hack anything, and if you end up in a street where there's nothing, then the game's truth kind of falls down.
"We want to have a lot of density in our city, a lot of people that you can spy into, and lots of things you can do. So that's density while keeping scale, and definitely memory helps a lot with that."
Earlier this week Ubisoft announced Watch Dogs as a PS4 launch title, and said that it would also release on Wii U.
Watch Dogs sees players take control of a hacker named Aiden Pearce, who has an entire city's surveillance system at his disposal, and can tap into people's electronic devices to gather intel on them and infiltrate security systems vital to the city.
It will feature innovative social features that allow users to access other players' games using smartphones.
It sounds like they are putting effort in so hopefully it ends up more than just a better graphical port.
I wonder if that part i highlighted is a little dig at MS and their rumored slower RAM.

There is one thing that benefits the DDR3 though and that is latency.
I 'think' I read that GDDR5 is based on DDR3.
Also I think Xbox 360 has a GDDR3 unified memory right? So I guess developers already know how to account for this latency in making games.
It seems that Sony has made the best (and in this case... meaning the most ideal even...) decision for PS4...

Release date confirmed, November 19th
Watch Dogs, or Watch_Dogs as Ubisoft insists on typing it, will be available in four different special editions - similar to the various flavours of Assassin's Creed you see every year.
Deep breath. There's "The Special Edition", available exclusively at GAME in the UK. It includes the Breakthrough Pack - an exclusive mission and a vehicle perk for free and cheaper in-game cars.
Next is the "Uplay Exclusive Edition", available exclusively via Ubisoft's online Uplay website. It comes in a Steelbook case and includes three exclusive missions - the Breakthrough Pack, plus two others - the Signature Shot and Palace Pack.
Then there's "The Vigilante Edition", available exclusively at GAME in the UK and GameStop in Ireland. You get a replica of Aiden Pearce's baseball cap and mask, a soundtrack, the Palace Pack and a snazzy box.
Finally - drumroll - there's "The Dedsec Edition", available at various UK retailers. You get all three exclusive missions mentioned above, the soundtrack, Steelbook case, an artbook, a map, collectible cards, badges and a 23cm Aiden Pearce figurine.

Oh please let PS4 come out in Europe this year otherwise it's going to be a long wait for me to play this and a couple of other cross gen games.
If Sony doesn't manage to release PS4 worldwide this year, it'll be disappointing.
Eurogamer.Watch Dogs includes 60 minutes of PS3-exclusive content (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-04-30-watch-dogs-includes-60-minutes-of-ps3-exclusive-content)
UPDATE: Ubisoft confirms for PlayStation 4, too.
By Tom Phillips Published Tuesday, 30 April 2013
UPDATE: Ubisoft has confirmed that Watch Dog's PS3-exclusive gameplay will also be available on PlayStation 4.
The additional content will be released post-launch as a digital download, the publisher told Eurogamer.
"We can confirm that customers who will purchase Watch Dogs on PlayStation 3 or PlayStation 4 will be able to download 60 minutes of additional gameplay via the PlayStation Network after the game's launch," a Ubisoft spokesperson said. "As of now, we have no more details to share."
ORIGINAL STORY: Ubisoft's promising-looking open world adventure Watch Dogs will include 60 minutes of exclusive gameplay on PlayStation 3.
The feature was revealed yesterday in the game's box art, but not highlighted by Ubisoft at the time.
Presumably the content will also be available on Sony's next-gen console, the PlayStation 4, too.
Watch Dogs is currently announced for PC, PS3, PS4, Wii U, Xbox 360 and "other next-gen consoles".
It's not the first time Ubisoft has favoured Sony's machines over others.
Assassin's Creed games often include exclusive side-stories for PS3 (Brotherhood had the Copernicus Conspiracy, AC3 had an extra saga featuring Benedict Arnold and this year's Black Flag will continue the trend). Far Cry 3 also awarded PS3-owners with extra co-op campaign chapters.
The contents of Watch Dogs' exclusive gameplay has yet to be revealed.
We've asked Ubisoft for more information.
Watch Dogs will arrive in the UK for current-gen platforms on 22nd November, Ubisoft announced yesterday. Its PlayStation 4 version is expected to be available whenever the consoles launches here.

That is the most BS way to advertise additional content. "60mins". What if I complete it in 58mins? Are they false advertising? Do I get a refund? Can I report them?
What if it takes 61 minutes or longer? :cowboy:
Anyway, the DLC war is lame and it's only getting worse.

Definitely, no matter who it's in favour of. It means that the early adopters are paying the highest price for the least complete version of the game. That's why I tend to wait a few months and buy the cheaper, non-gimped bundle.

I've yet to buy any real piece of DLC besides the RE5 one (the RE1 styled piece). Well, I do own Episodes of Libety City on PC, but I bought those with the complete package of GTA4 (and they are stand alone, too).
Not sure how this stuff really stayed relevant through all these years. Do people actually and actively pay money for this stuff? They have to, or it'd stop. But why^^
Didn't a lot of developers, etc, say that most people don't even finish a lot of games?
^Most people who actually buy DLC might be the hardcore gamers who want more.
I don't think I've bought any DLC for games I didn't finish. Then again, I finish 99% of my games, although I've got yet to decide whether getting Rising's DLC chapters. I loved the game but for some reason I don't really want Sam's DLC. Blade Wolf DLC, however...

I mean, I understand the sales numbers of COD dlc and whatnot. But story stuff? I don't get it.

I personally think the people who buy the DLC are from both the hardcore and casual crowd.
It's whoever can be duped into it, or the occasional times, convinced it's a good value for a good reason. I think that camp of people comes from hardcore and casual.
Like Segitz though, I haven't bought a single DLC package yet as add-on to any of my games. I never believed it would be a good thing and I'm so far convinced that most of the time it won't be a good value anyway. The only good thing about DLC is that I can opt out...
I have purchased quite a few single player DLC packs. There have been some fantastic ones this gen. The Citadel + Lair of The Shadow broker for Mass Effect are brilliant. Minerva's Den for Bioshock 2 is really good. The Ballad of Gay Tony was pretty much the only good thing for me to come from GTA IV. The Fallout New Vegas stuff was also really good. I could list quite a few more and judging by the the number of ratings for these packs on PSN i would say quite a few others enjoy them also. I could care less about multiplayer DLC.
This type of DLC for Watchdogs is different though. They just add a extra fort or something where you travel to and complete three or four missions like in Assassins Creed 3. It is actually on the disc and doesn't come after the fact like the type of DLC MS pays for.Trust me when i say that you guys aren't missing much. Personally i am more pissed that the collectors edition for Watchdogs has three missions that the rest of us already paying $60 don't get to access. Now that is really greedy.
Segitz

I yeah, I did forget that I bought the Fallout Goty... well, it was dlc beforehand, but the Goty just had the stuff on disc. That stuff did indeed strike my interest (no way in getting it here, though, because the german version of Fallout was censored to hell and I imported the original game... so I had to rebuy for the DLC^^)

I think this looks great. Perhaps not the leap some people would expect but that's largely due to the fact that most people tend to compare 5th generation gameplay and graphics with 1st generation gameplay and graphics on the new console. This is understandable of course and even I sometimes have to remind myself of that.
In terms of a leap from 1st gen games on the PS3 to 1st gen games on the PS4, it's a HUGE leap in overall quality. How does it compare to 5th gen games though? It doesn't come out unscathed, but you can see quite clearly that there are many improvements that warrant calling them 'noticeably' better.
So, yes, I think this game looks (and plays) next gen and whilst I know that 3rd generation games on the PS4 (and the Infinity for that matter) are going to BLOW YOUR MIND, I'm also confident that we are not going to be disappointed with the launch games.

For me the PC footage released still has the same current gen problems that I was hoping would get better, there is a lot of aliasing and shadow issues. I hope those go away for the final version. I can't imagine what the current gen versions look like.

I really like the sound of this:
Jonathan Morin: You can play single player or multiplayer in the game. You’re always in your own session. If you’re playing alone, you’re playing alone. So it means there are millions of people alone in their own sessions. We’ve simply added the ability to merge those sessions together at the pacing of our choice.
You can be free-roaming and naturally getting into some kind of activity that makes you intertwine with another player. You interact with them, then you’re done and it goes away. It’s not like you have someone in your game the whole time who can mess with your game, but it’s definitely the beginning of a solution to tackle those taboos.
Players often worry that another player is going to come into their game and break their experience. That’s an old school statement. We need to fix that, and it’s a design problem, not a technical problem – how do you bring two players together and let them interact in a way that’s pleasing?
One thing I can say is that when we watch people play together in Watch_Dogs, most of the time they don’t even realise that it was another player. There are no signs. There is a great thing there that someone can be in the experience and naturally enter a situation. They become part of the story. “That was another player? No way! That’s awesome!” They didn’t notice. That’s spectacular!
As a developer, I can immediately tell when it’s another player in a game – jeez, that guy doesn’t walk like an AI, that’s a player. But in Watch_Dogs, players won’t notice that immediately. It’s a new form of emotion and it fits perfectly in the Watch_Dogs universe where everybody watches everyone else.
