Ok, I don't know about this one.
If I'm going to sit in a chat with a bunch of people using a camera, why not just do Video Kinect?
Second of all, I love party chat for the main reason that we can all be doing different things and still chatting. I don't want all my friends to be sitting in Avatar Kinect... doing who knows what?
I feel like a negative Nancy but I just don't see myself using this/caring, but I could be wrong.

Their are various reason for avatar chat.

those that are shy
reduces chance of exposure
parental concerns
anonymous
etc.

One of the pro's I suppose will be that it will use far less bandwith than HD video, as no image is being streamed.

Great demo from Sony saw it some time ago shows what you can do with just a cam; Kinect would logically improve on this by some margine with their tech.
