What I think about the new console war.

This (I think) will be the best console war ever. Why? Because you just need to think about all these systems coming out. None of them have a really big handicap. So far the best console race ever was the 16 bit era. That was the best era of all. The 32/64 bit era wasn't all that excited due to the one who did the best was Sony and it wasn't because of skill but because all the other system didn't have adequete enough hardware suffient enough to Sony's. Saturn was really hard to develop for. N64 was really hard to develop for (due to it's cartridge handicap.). So the only choice was Sony since they weren't all that hard to develop for. But alas, now in this new 128 era it will be the best ever. No one I think has a really huge advantage to throw them out of the war completely Here's the pros and cons.

Pros.

Playstation 2:
Most third party support.
Most respected in Japan.
Ahead start.

Xbox:
Most powerfulest.
Most money behind it.
Full scale online plan.

Gamecube:
Easiest to develop for.
Longest in the business.
Most second parties.
Most game franchises.

Cons.

Playstation 2:
Hard to develop for.
First generation of games weren't very good.

Xbox.
New to market.
Does not have good establishment in Japanese market.
Must build gamers trust.
Coming short on pre-orders

Gamecube:
Has a kiddie image to some.
No Mario title at launch.
Known for delays.

Well that's all I could think of. I'm sure you all can think of more than that or add more in for me. But no one console has a big advantage to make us all buy it and make it be the best.

will come out on top. But ther is still a good chance that
gamecube will win. I don't see how microsoft can expect their

I think that xbox won't last two year's against playstation 2
and gamecube. Thers too much competition for the new comer.

Here is how I look at it..

PS2 will stay on top as #1 for another year, then GC will take over, and last comes in XBox with as the thread starter mentioned, very little support from Japan which will change, but not enough to go to the top.

GC's lineup for 2002 will take it to #1, just look at the games coming out for this year alone.

The X-Box won't win here in Europe, because it doesn't have a good reputation like Gamecube or the PS2! So sorry for Microsoft, but Europe is nothing for the X-Box (and its even more expensive then in the USA!)

Yeah, I don't think it'll do well in Europe, even though Microsoft just opened up an XBox plant over there. And the XBox is the easiest to develop for, not the GameCube. You know what else I noticed? This page has a PHP error:

Its been said by several developers on several occasions that the Gamecube is the most developer friendly of the 3. Less bottlenecks and other little problems on the way. The Xbox doesn't lag too far behind in this category though, Buzz Beer. Its definitely no PS2 when it comes to game development. ;)

Also, I've heard Gamecube is the easiest to develop for, that was Nintendo's whole goal because it plagued them with the N64, in countless of interviews with the people at nintendo they kept on mentioning this factor.
