I would make it look similar to the one it is now but I would return the X and Y buttons. I would make is use mini-disc and it will have the disk slide into it like you insert a music CD into a car. I would make it rumble w/o batteries and have some sort of a built-in light or make the screen brighter so you can see in the dark. I would also make it have an 8 way d-pad that would move loosely as a joystick. I would also have a flat built in magifier so I don't have to spend too much money to make the screen big then you can change it if it gets scratched or broken making it protect the screen. It would be more powerful and have graphics as good as PSX. Also I would add a protective leather or casing that would still make it portable. Also if there is one thing to buy for it there would be a object that you insert in the battery slot and act as a battery slot cover and you charge it for energy to play your GBA. Also the name I think should change to VGB (Virtual Game Boy).

Also I would make it more comfortable to hold.

I would make it more powerful than playstation,it would use mini-discs,I would replace the D-pad with a control stick and add X and Y buttons, make the screen 50%bigger,and add a modem for online play

I would also add two extra top buttons that would feel trigger like in that space in the back of the L and R buttons It might be a bit thicker. Also it would have online gameplay or use of Cellular phones. Also I would make it have a nice good grip feeling.

if I made gba,I would make the specs:40MHz,2MB RAM,256kb Sound RAM,1 MB Video RAM,I would add a GPU that can do 400,000 polygons per second,64 bit,640x480 resolution,600MB mini-discs

Mine would be an x-box with a 17 inch tv on top. With duct tape wrapped around it.

If any specs need to be changed, as long as it had to do with 2D ability I'd be fine.
I agree with the X and Y, and since that would make it an exact SNES replica.
An SNES cart adapter would be kinda cool, and definatly a video multi out unless..
Somehow, someway, a cheap way to use backlit w/o massive battery drain.
NOTE: The biggest size of an SNES cart was about 32 MegaBit (4MB), GBA carts can get to 256 MegaBit (32MB), thats plenty enough room.

Fine 2D games are great... Hey, Capcom VS SNK 2 would be great on GBA, but could it handle that ?
