Flourished Exigency

This is the question that every gamer with access to the internet has been pondering for the last couple of weeks. Will Nintendo pull ahead of Sony in the upcoming console race? Well, the answer to that question is very indefinite. While the PS2 has had a year head start, inferior hardware has caused several “key” titles to be delayed periodically by prolific developers such as Polyphony and Konami. Whereas the PS2 is said to be as difficult to produce games for as the Saturn was, the Gamecube is its exact opposite. Developers that have dealt with Nintendo’s new powerhouse console have all but reached a consensus stating that the Gamecube is THE easiest system to develop for in this generation of videogame consoles...yes indeed, it even edges out the seemingly invincible X-BOX.

If I am to properly conduct some side by side analysis of the two videogame machines in question, I must look at things in a systematic manner. With that said, I will continue. Sony has established a firm and unshakable user base for the PS2. Every major developer is currently instated with some business pertaining to the console, and while some will argue that the X-BOX is stealing some of Sony’s PS2 developers from under their nose, the fact remains that the PS2 is already a well-established videogame console in both Japan and America, and as things stand currently, the X-BOX has no chance of dethroning Sony’s mastodon in Japan. Now then, with the pesky issue of the X-BOX out of the way, I will now move onto the topic at hand, Gamecube’s chances of dismantling Sony’s PS2 empire. The Gamecube is going to be marketed as a pure gaming system...interesting considering the fact that its two competitors have chosen to market their respective videogame consoles as multimedia masterpieces. I personally see this move by Nintendo as sheer genius. It keeps the price of the console relatively low, and also gives the consumer the notion that Nintendo is all about games, and after all, games are what videogame systems are all about. Speaking of games, the Gamecube will have several launch titles spanning a vast array of genres including adventure, RPG, Sports and miscellaneous. All of these games will be immensely crucial in the success of the system...as like all other things, first impressions of first generation videogame offerings are of paramount importance with consumers . Nintendo knows this and this time, unlike with their previous attempt (N64), they are taking no chances with lackluster software and hardware. Quality control will be upped to a higher point, and with the ease of development that the Gamecube offers all developers, more energy can be propounded toward implementation of game concepts rather than technological grappling.

Developers has stressed and expressed their dissatisfaction with the PS2’s ridiculously perplexing architecture. They understand that the PS2 is a very lucrative platform, but production expenses in developing for this technological monster are incredibly exorbitant...and this is an understatement. Sure, games cost a lot to fabricate on the Gamecube as well as the X-BOX, but shorter development cycles will decrease the amount of time and effort a developer would have to put forth in order to get their project out the door. As the old adage goes time is money; I will modify this saying a tad to suit my need. PS2 development cycles are typically long, and large amounts of currency have to be spent consistently throughout that long development period. Coupling this information with the rationale that time is money, it is clear to see that developing games for the Gamecube and X-BOX is wholly more cost efficient when compared to developing games for the PS2.

Games are the driving force behind the videogame industry. With the creation factor of videogames addressed, I will now talk about the conceptual and fun factors of videogames. While it is a known fact that superior hardware technology does not always equal a better software product, a company like Nintendo can be said to have the best of both worlds. Let us face it, Nintendo has a powerful system, and they definitely have the games to back it up. Zelda, Mario, Donkey Kong, Metroid, Kirby, Earthbound, F-Zero, Banjo Kazooie, Smash Bros, Star Fox, Punch Out, and of course all of those zany spin-offs are all top notch in the eyes of most gamers. They are system-selling material and they will make the Gamecube the most successful system for the next 5-6 years. Zelda games are always improving, with new innovations implemented to add new incentive for procurement. Depth is the key word, and shallowness does not know Nintendo...it does however have Sony’s house keys. With digitized breasts taking the forefront at the Sony camp, it can be said that Nintendo is the last of the original console manufacturers that has persevered and retained its scruples despite changing times. This in itself shows the level of dedication that Nintendo has to make games that can be enjoyed by broad audiences. Shallowness will spell Sony’s downfall in my humble opinion. Nintendo is looking to remind gamers that the most important factors in a videogame should always be fun and longevity. I cannot help but agree with them.

Addressing the title of this thread, I would have to say that Nintendo will indeed transcend their competitors and achieve ultimate greatness. I cannot wait for this to happen.

You basically took what ive been saying for months and made it into a piece of artwork hehe, cause basically all it comes down to is the fact that all 3 systems have more or less comparable graphics, XBOX and GCN have the advantage of ease on their side. so thats one thing, then you have the fact that Gamecube clearly has the best exclusive games. So that will attract customers, which will make nintendo grow in the market, then 3rd parties will see the story differently, theyll see PS2 as a frustrating, time consuming obstacle, and the gamecube as easy money. so they jump ship and its all over.

wow is right dude, I agreee with all that you have written and a lot of people know all this to be true. Its a shame that the masses all flock to the same tired old crap time and time again, thats how sony have become what they are they peddle crap mostly and people come back for more. There are people who can smell shit a mile off however and that helps me sleep at night. Everything will come out in the wash.
